LINWOOD SCHOOL MISSION STATEMENT
We aim to provide a centre of excellence in which individuals are valued and encouraged to give of their best.
A VERY SPECIAL CHOICE
Linwood is a special school located close to the centre of Bournemouth. We welcome pupils from a wide geographical area and support a comprehensive range of special Educational Needs. The range of needs includes moderate, severe and profound learning difficulties and pupils with autistic spectrum disorders.
The school has many excellent facilities with some spacious, well-equipped classrooms. These include a completely refurbished Design Technology area, including a room for resistant materials technology and a room for food technology, a Science Room, a new library, an Information and Communication Technology base and a new Block, which forms part of the Senior Department. We also have an excellent indoor heated swimming pool, a Sensory Room, Physiotherapy Room and Speech Therapy Room. A new purpose-built Autistic Unit was opened in September 2002.
WHAT MAKES LINWOOD SPECIAL?
Linwood, in common with all schools, is concerned with creating a learning environment that challenges its pupils with high expectations. We are, however, in the privileged position of being able to acknowledge and respond sensitively to the needs of individuals and their varying circumstances, stages of development and abilities. Our class sizes remain small in comparison to mainstream schools and the school enjoys an enhanced pupil/teacher ratio. Our teaching staff is a team of talented and highly motivated professionals who have a wealth of experience coupled with a genuine empathy for pupils with learning difficulties. The school also has a significant team of teaching assistants who complement and reinforce learning and care opportunities. Pupils receive more individual attention than can normally be afforded in a mainstream setting and individual education programmes form an integral part of the school planning and assessment cycle.
